Where is your mind keeping you at the moment?

Do you have a flexible or an inflexible mindset?

When it comes to mindset, most people will tend to have either a flexible, or an inflexible, mindset.

Someone with an inflexible, or ‘fixed’ mindset, will typically find themselves ‘stuck’, yet they’re not at a stage where they’re ready to make a change. Their thought patterns, beliefs and values are holding them back and keeping them from progressing and growing.

Mindset is formed is through our upbringing, our cultural awareness and our understanding of where we are in the world, and it is what forms our beliefs, values and behaviours.

Someone with a flexible mindset however, is ready and willing to make changes, and they’re asking themselves questions that will help them move forward and grow. They’re looking for new ways to approach their life in terms of habits, and the way they think and approach situations. They have normally hit a critical point, where they realise that what they’re doing in their life, their belief systems, the way they’re thinking, and their behaviours, really aren’t serving them anymore, and they don’t want to keep doing the same things and getting the same outcomes.

Can you change your mindset?

Absolutely!

The first thing you can do is start to ask yourself better questions, because the quality of your life is 100% dictated by the questions you ask yourself.

If you find you’re starting to say things like, “why me?”, “it’s not fair!” or “bad things always happen to me,” start to notice the language you’re using and try asking yourself better, more constructive, questions.

Instead of asking yourself, “Why does this stuff always happen to me?”, try asking yourself questions like, “What do I want my life to look like 12 months from now?”, “Why am I feeling sad today and what could I do to feel happier?”, “Why am I feeling tired and how can I feel more energised?” and “How can I move towards something better?”

Are your own beliefs and perceptions about yourself holding you back from succeeding? Are your thoughts controlling your life? The reality is, we need to unlock these fears about ourselves because what we think and believe about ourself, and the world around us, can be the biggest handbrakes in our life.

And, once you uncover the beliefs and habits that are limiting your true potential, you can start the process of changing those thoughts. Remember, most of the thoughts and beliefs we have are formed subconsciously without us even realising. Changing the conversations you have with yourself can help to unlock unlimited opportunities for success, happiness, health and wellbeing.

If your mindset is holding you back, here are a few simple things you can do to start getting unstuck.

  • Set goals – think about what you need to do right now, tomorrow, next week, next year to achieve your dreams. Set some defined goals to help you to focus and set your life in the right direction.
  • Try meditation. Meditation can help you take a step back and see your thoughts and feelings. It allows your mind to relax and can help you to see things from a different perspective.
  • Take care of the essentials – make sure you’re getting enough good quality sleep, move your body, eat healthy, nourishing foods, stay hydrated and check that you’re taking nice deep breaths. Follow these simple tips and you’ll be amazed at what a difference it can make to the way you think!
