Well, to be successful in life you need to start by setting goals and creating a framework of healthy habits that support them, even when the going gets tough.
So, you want to learn how to lose weight for life? Or maybe you’re here to optimise the way you feel and perform daily and in pursuit of your goals.
Either way, your diet has an absolutely massive impact on whether you’re ultimately going to be successful or not. That’s why optimising your Menu is the second M in the Loz Life Healthy Habit Hierarchy.

1. Why does healthy eating matter?
Choosing a healthy diet is absolutely crucial if you’re chasing goals and aiming to live your best life. For example, consider the people you look up to because they are really thriving – they look amazing, they’re full of energy and when it comes to goals, they’re smashing it out of the park.
Well NONE of those people – the ones who are really living their best life – are eating an unhealthy diet.
Why is that?
Because the food you eat is FUEL for the most important, most IRREPLACEABLE vehicle you’ll ever own – your body!
Harsh truth: If you’ve been fuelling up on junk food, you’re literally running on rubbish!
But enough of that…
Now that you’ve digested that truth bomb, it’s time to find out what you can do about it.
2. How to create a healthy menu
The first step in creating a way of eating that fills you with nourishment and wellness is to take a look at where you are now. Spend a few days noticing what you usually eat. Jotting it down in a diary is even better because it gives you the chance to reflect on the type of fuel you choose time and again.
Reflect on WHY you choose that food. Is it because it’s quick and easy? Or do you just really love the taste? How often do you choose food based on how fresh it is, or how much nutrition it has?
If you’re after meaningful weight loss or improvements in your health, then fresh wholefoods in a rainbow of colours are going to be your new best friend.
Understanding how to choose the best fuel for your body can feel confusing though, with so many fad diets, pills and gimmicks out there to make a quick buck from our misery!

3. Healthy habits to help you optimise your diet
Creating healthy new habits around what, when and how you eat is the best way to make lasting changes to your menu.
To help you get started, I’m sharing a few health tips that can help you get off to the right start, ready to experience ongoing success for life.
3.1 Start your menu makeover with a metabolic reboot
A metabolic reboot helps you to detox from all the junk that’s accumulated within your system. This junk isn’t just a result of poor eating habits, but can also be accumulated toxins, metals, and chemical residues. The main sources of these are:
- Air pollution
- Food additives
- Household cleaners
- Drinking water contaminated with metals
Essentially a detox diet, the aim of a metabolic reboot is to flush these from your system using a simplified low-inflammatory diet packed with nutrients. The process also gives your organs a rest and boosts your basal metabolic rate – the perfect way to start a new way of eating for great health!
And since metabolic reboot can help reduce the accumulation of harmful substances in your body, it can help your body function optimally.
After a reboot, you may notice improved digestion, more energy, clearer skin, less muscle pain, and fresher breath. You could even see an improvement in some chronic health conditions!

3.2 Create a balanced diet
To create a balanced diet that is optimal for you, you need to start with how many calories you should be consuming.
To maintain your weight, you’ll need to feed your body the right amount of energy for all your bodily functions and movement. To lose weight, you’ll need to create a deficit so that your body turns to stored reserves of fat to fuel these activities and processes.

I also recommend that you track your daily food intake. This helps keep you accountable and is a great tool for reflecting on how your choices reflect in the outcomes you achieved for the week.

Once you have your ideal calorie intake right, there is a lot more you can do to optimise the way you choose to use those calories to fuel your success. Choosing the right food can be intimidating, but you can learn to master your diet here.
3.3 Incorporate your new menu into your lifestyle
Creating a supportive environment helps to support your goals.
You’ll notice this for yourself during special occasions. Like maybe you’re trying to lose weight, but the Easter Bunny was a bit TOO generous to the kids… If you have a sweet tooth, this environment is not going to help you reach your goals!
Now imagine that every day there was chocolate calling to you from the cupboard…
So, what can you do?
Create an environment designed to support the great new habits you’ve chosen instead.
3.4 Get yourself a support network!!
Developing a truly supportive support network is so important in helping your power towards success. Researchers have found that having a network of people on the same journey as you can be the X-factor that determines whether you achieve you goal or not!
This is because they help you normalise great habits, rather than pressuring you into doing things that derail you from your aim. And as they say, you become the sum of the 5 people you spend the most time with!
